How do I keep my valuables safely ?
The safest place for your money and your passport is next to your skin, either in a money belt or a secure pouch under your shirt. If you carry your money in a wallet, keep it in your front trouser pocket, never the back pocket (the ‘pickpocket’s friend’). Never leave your valuable documents and travelers cheque in your hotel room when you go out (even under your mattress). Keep your valuables in hotel lockers/safe deposit vaults (Most of the hotels offer this facility now-a-days). Keep photocopies of your passport, including the visa page, separately from your passport (these are also useful for obtaining permits), as well as a copy of your airline ticket. You could also email scans to yourself and keep the copies in all the bags separately that you are carrying. Be careful of pickpocket while boarding trains and keep the luggage under your seat probably tide with chain and lock.
