Trashigang (also spelt Tashigang) town is at about 1070m above the sea level. It is the center and the district capital of Trashigang Dzongkhag, the largest district in the country. Trashigang district incorporate villages and towns like Bartsam, Bidung, Kanglung, Kangpara, Khaling, Phongmey, Merak, Sakten, Radhi and Samkhar. It's small township, one of the largest in Bhutan, is located above the Gamri Chu at the foot of steep wooded valley with tiny Mithidang Chhu channeled through it. The town has an attractive ambience, with its painted houses, amid flowering bougainvilleas and its tiny shops and cafes that surround Small Square hum with activity at the end of the day. This town is also the principle market place for the semi-nomadic people of Merak and Sakteng, who wear unique dress.
