Jamacho monastery day hike is one of the most popular short day hikes around the Kathmandu valley. Situated inside the Shivapuri National Park, Jamacho Monastery provides a beautiful surroundings and a tranquil atmosphere. This Jamacho Monastery Day hike can be perfect for a day's quick escape from the busy city life The monastery contains a small statue of Nagarjuna Buddha, and nearby is a Buddhist Stupa with statues of Buddhist gods and Goddesses.

The Jamacho monastery day hike trail goes over a well-developed path through a thick forest of rhododendron, pine, fir, and oak with the melodies of chirping birds. The hike begins from Nagarjuna forest gate at Fulbari near Balaju. It is an uphill hike over a well-maintained path for about 3-4 hrs to reach the hilltop. On clear days you can enjoy the views of Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal, and the Langtang range from the viewpoint. The return journey to the forest gate takes about 1.5-2hrs

Brief Itinerary

The hike to Jamacho monastery begins with a drive to the Nagarjuna forest gate, the starting point of our hike. After obtaining the entry permit at the check post. We hike uphill through the Nagarjuna Forest Reserve to Jamacho hilltop(3-4hrs). The hike goes through lush green forests, on reaching the hilltop, visit the Jamacho monastery and enjoy the beautiful view of the Kathmandu valley and the surrounding mountains. Then hike back to the gate will take about 2hrs, where we meet our vehicle and drive back to your hotel.
(No food or water is available inside the park, we suggest you carry packed lunch and enough water)
