Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is an easy trek to the foothills of the Annapurna Region. This Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek offers fantastic views of the mountains, with glimpses of traditional village life, along with the picturesque setting of the mountains dominating the background. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek goes through a beautiful mountain setting, a quaint Gurung village, and a rhododendron forest. The major highlight of this trek is the mesmerizing view of sunrise from the top of Poon Hill over the Annapurna, Machhapuchre, and other peaks. Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is a perfect short trekking option in the Annapurna. This trek is suitable for those who have a short time to do the Annapurna Base Camp trek but wish to get the feel of the ABC Trek.
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek starts with a short drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. The journey passes through the villages of Birenthanti, Hile, and Ulleri and arrives at Ghorepani. Early next morning, we will hike to poon hill to watch the breathtaking sunrise view over the snowcapped mountains. From Poon Hill, you can get a fantastic view of Hiunchuli, Annapurna south, Annapurna I, Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and many more peaks. From Ghorepani, we continue our journey to Ghandruk through Tadapani. From Ghandruk, we descend across terraced rice fields alongside the Modi Khola past villages to Nayapul and then drive to Pokhara.
Detail Itinerary
Day 1. Arrival in Kathmandu
Upon arrival, meet our representative and transfer to the hotel. You can either relax at your hotel or take a short walk to visit Thamel through the narrow streets of Asan and Indrachowk markets. We will have dinner in the evening at a traditional Nepali Restaurant. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 2. In Kathmandu
Today in the first half, we will visit some UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Kathmandu Durbar Square, Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath temple. Later in the afternoon, we will plan and prepare for the trek. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 3: Drive Kathmandu to Pokhara (850m) 6hrs
The drive from Kathmandu(208 km) goes along river banks, local villages, farmlands, and beautiful mountain scenery. We shall stop to observe the scenic spot along the way and to stretch our legs. On arrival, check into the hotel and relax, or you have the option to stroll around Phewa lake and visit the local market. Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 4. Pokhara to Tikkhedhunga(1500m/4-5hrs)
Drive about an hour or more to Nayapul. The Ghorepani Poon Hill trek begins from Nayapul. The trekking trail passes through villages like Lumle, Birethanti, farmlands, and bamboo glades. The walk is gradual until a short ascent to Hile and then a steep climb to Tikhedhunga. Overnight in Thikhedhunga.
Day 5. Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani(2874m/6hrs)
The hike from Tikhedhunga is a steep ascent until Ulleri, a large Magar village. From Ulleri, it is a gradual ascent through a forest of rhododendron crossing several streams. As we climb higher, the views get more striking. Mt. Annapurna south, Nilgiri south, and some other peaks come into view. After crossing the Nange Thati river, it is a gradual hike to Ghore Pani. Overnight in Ghorepani.
Day 6. Ghorepani to Tadapani(2630m/6hrs)
Early morning we hike up to Poon Hill (3210m). Poon hill offers the best sunrise view over the high mountains with panoramic views of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Fishtail, Nilgiri south, Annapurna I, and other peaks. After enjoying the view, we then descend to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we follow a pleasant forest trail of oak and rhododendrons to Deurali and descend to Banthanti. From here, it is a steep uphill hike to Tadapani. Overnight in Tadapani.
Day 7. Tadapani to Ghandruk(2012m/4-5hrs)
Today’s hike will be mostly downhill. We will descend gently through rhododendron and oak forests, with the sounds of birds twittering all the way to Ghandruk, a traditional Gurung village. In Ghandruk, we will visit the traditional handicraft center and the Gurung museum to understand the culture and lifestyle of the people. Overnight in Ghandruk.
Day 8. Ghandruk to Nayapul(4-5 hrs) Drive to Pokhara(1 hr)
After breakfast, we hike downhill across terraced rice fields and walk alongside the Modi Khola past villages to Nayapul. At Nayapul, we will board a private vehicle and drive to Pokhara. The evening is free to explore the lakeside area. Overnight in Pokhara.
Day 9: Pokhara to Kathmandu
After breakfast, we retrace our drive to Kathmandu. Check into your hotel, and the afternoon is free to go shopping or relax at your hotel. Overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 10. Departure
Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
