Gokyo Trek is the most attractive trek that encompasses the Gokyo lakes and Gokyo Ri. Gokyo Ri is one of the most spectacular view point for magnificent view of the Everest and other Himalayan peaks. This trek has been specially designed to suit those who are willing to experience the magnificence of the Himalayas without taking the physical stress of reaching the Everest Base Camp. This trek takes you to the turquoise Gokyo lakes, then ascend the Gokyo peak for spectacular view of the mountains.

Technically the trek starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Then we proceed to Phakding and to Namche Bazaar. We spend two nights in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization before proceeding further. From here we proceed to Hilltop, Dole, Machermo and reach Gokyo. After exploring the Gokyo valley, descend back to Dole, Namche Bazar, Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.

Outline Itinerary

Day 1. Arrival in Kathmandu.
Upon arrival at the airport meet our representative/guide and transfer to the hotel. As there are no activities planned for today, you may either enjoy the evening at leisure or take a self guided tour to familiarize with the city. Evening dinner at a traditional Nepali Restaurant. Overnight in hotel.

Day 2. In Kathmandu (trek preparation).
Today in the first half of the day we will visit some of the major UNESCO heritage sites, this may include the Swayambhunath temple, the oldest Buddhist monument in the valley and Boudanath, the largest Stupa in Nepal. Next we will drive to Kathmandu Durbar Square, situated at the heart of Kathmandu, full of ancient history, culture and architecture. Later part of the day we will plan and prepare for the trek. Overnight in hotel.

Day 3. Fly to Lukla-Trek to Phakding(2652m/3hrs)
This morning we will take a short spectacular 30 minute flight to Lukla, The flight offers stunning view of some of the worlds highest peaks. On arrival at Lukla gather our gears and head for Phakding(3hrs). The hike is mostly downhill and goes through scenic landscape and local villages.

Day 4. Phakding – Namche Bazaar(3440m/6hrs)
From Phakding, we continue further with quite an easy ascend through a beautiful pine forest along the bank of Dudh Koshi River past Monjo and Jorsalle village. Crossover the suspension bridge and begin our steep ascent to Namche Bazaar. Overnight in trekkers lodge.

Day 5. In Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar is the center of Sherpa community and the major trading hub in the Everest region. We reserve this day for acclimatization, as we ascend higher it is necessary to adapt our body with the surrounding environment. There are several options to do this. We can either hike to the Everest View Hotel past Syangboche airstrip which provides stunning view of Mt. Everest, Ama Dablma, Nuptse and Lhotse. There is also the the option to take a days’ hike to Khumjung or Thame village, these hikes helps us to adjust and adapt with the altitude gain. Overnight in a trekkers lodge.

Day 6. Namche Bazaar to Hilltop Sherpa Lodge(3-4hrs)
The trail from Namche is a beautiful one with the view of Thamserku, Ama Dablam, Lhotse and Mt. Everest until the village of Kyanjuma. The wide path goes on a rocky mountain above the Dudh Kosi gorge. From Kyanjuma, the hike is over a fairly flat trail until Sanasa, where the road divides, one leads to the Everest Base Camp and the other to the Gokyo lakes. We take the steep one to the left until we reach the Hilltop Sherpa Lodge, where we halt for the night. Overnight in trekker’s lodge.

Day 7. Hilltop Sherpa Lodge to Dole(4040m/4-5hrs)
From the Hilltop lodge the trail ascends towards the Mong La pass and then descends into Khumbila. From here the trail descends to the Dudh Koshi rive and continues to Phortse Thenga and out of the valley through forests of rhododendron, Juniper and coniferous forest past Yak pastures to Dole. Overnight in trekker’s lodge.

Day 8. Dole to Machhermo(4410m/5hrs)
The trail is a steep climb across Lhabarma and Luza with good view of the Cho Oyu, Kantega and the Thamserku all along the way. The trail goes along the side of the valley across beautiful meadow until we reach Machermo. Machermo is the last major settlement on the way to Gokyo. Overnight in trekker's lodge.

Day 9. Machhermo to Gokyo(4750m/4-5hrs)
The trail ascends to a scenic ridge that provides beautiful views of Kangtega, Cho Oyu and Thamserku. The trail traverse through the narrow valley down to the river bank of the Dudh Koshi. From here is a steep climb over the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa glacier past the first Gokyo lake and arrive at the beautiful Gokyo village. Overnight in trekker’s lodge.

Day 10. In Gokyo(Excursion to Gokyo Ri)
Start early in the morning for Gokyo Ri(5357m) to enjoy and experience the golden moment when the sun rises. The climb is a steep uphill and takes about 2-3 hrs through winding trial. The summit provides spellbinding views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Cho Oyo, Gokyo lakes and the Ngozumpa glacier. Return to Gokyo village for lunch, after lunch we have the option to rest and relax or hike to the 4th and the 5th lake . Ovenight in trekkers lodge.

Day 11. Gokyo to Dole.
After breakfast we shall retrace back to Machhermo and descend down to Dole for overnight.

Day 12. Dole to Namche.
Today’ hike is mostly downhill towards the Dudh Koshi passing through several villages with views of Thamserku, Amadablam, Lhotse, and Mt. Everest along the way.
Overnight in trekkers lodge.

Day 13. Namche to Lukla
We descend down the same trial that we have taken and arrive at Lukla. Rest of the time is free.
Overnight in a lodge.

Day 14. Fly to Kathmandu
Take the early morning flight to Kathmandu, on arrival check in to your hotel and rest and relax.
Overnight in a hotel.

Day 15. Extra day in Kathmandu.
Free or leisure day in Kathmandu. (Flights from Lukla are often cancelled due to unpredictable mountain weather, therefore we have planned for this extra contingent day)

Day 16. Departure
Departure transfer to the airport according to your flight to your next destination.
