Gokyo Trek is the most attractive trek that encompasses the Gokyo lakes and Gokyo Ri. Gokyo Ri is one of the most spectacular view point for magnificent view of the Everest and other Himalayan peaks. This trek has been specially designed to suit those who are willing to experience the magnificence of the Himalayas without taking the physical stress of reaching the Everest Base Camp. This trek takes you to the turquoise Gokyo lakes, then ascend the Gokyo peak for spectacular view of the mountains.

Technically the trek starts with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Then we proceed to Phakding and to Namche Bazaar. We spend two nights in Namche Bazaar for acclimatization before proceeding further. From here we proceed to Hilltop, Dole, Machermo and reach Gokyo. Enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Ngozumba Glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal. After exploring the Gokyo valley, descend back to Dole, Namche Bazar, Lukla and fly back to Kathmandu.

Outline Itinerary


Day 1. Arrival in Kathmandu.
Upon arrival meet our representative and transfer to the hotel. Depending on your arrival time you can either choose to relax at your hotel or take a short walk to visit the Thamel area. Evening dinner at a traditional Nepali Restaurant.

Day 2. In Kathmandu (trek preparation).
After breakfast half day sightseeing in and around Kathmandu city. We visit some of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the city along with other interesting cultural monuments that dot the valley which may include Bouddhanath Stupa (the largest Buddhist shrines in the world), Pashupatinath (the holiest Hindu temple in the world) and Kathmandu Durbar Squares as per your available time. After sightseeing, we will have a short briefing on planning/preparing the trek.

Day 3. Fly to Lukla-Trek to Phakding(2652m/3hrs)
This morning we will take a short spectacular 30 minute flight to Lukla, which offers good views of the mountain peaks. On arrival gather our gears and head for Phakding(3hrs). The trail goes through scenic landscape and local villages.

Day 4. Phakding – Namche Bazaar(3440m/6hrs)
The trek from Phakding goes through a beautiful pine forest along the bank of Dudh Koshi River and Hillary Suspension bridge and reach the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park. The trail passes through the Dudh Koshi, river and reach Chautara from where we get the first glimpse of the Mt. Everest and continue uphill until Namche Bazaar.

Day 5. In Namche Bazaar
Namche Bazaar is the centre of Sherpa Community and one of the major trading hub in the Everest region. We reserve this day as acclimatization day. A few hours walk to visit Syangboche, Thame or Khumjung village can be a good option to get you acclimatized. We can also visit the Sherpa Cultural Private Museum and the Everest Photo Gallery.

Day 6. Namche Bazaar to Hilltop(3-4hrs)
Today we will have an easy short uphill hike through villages until Sansa and from Sansa it is mostly steep uphill climb until the last stretch to Hilltop lodge, where we halt for the night.

Day 7. Hilltop to Dole(4040m/5hrs)
From Hilltop the trail descends passing through Phortse Thanga and from here it is a steep climb to Dole through rhododendron and birch forest.

Day 8. Dole to Machhermo(4410m/5hrs)
The trail is mostly an uphill climb offering good views of Cho Oyu, Kantega and Thamserku through summer settlements; the trail goes along the side of the valley across beautiful meadows until Machhermo. Machhermo is the last major settlement on the way up to Gokyo.

Day 9. Machhermo to Gokyo(4750m/4-5hrs)
We will ascend uphill with the views of the Dudh Koshi valley, Kangtega, Thamserku and the Cho Oyo and descend down to the river bank. Following the river bank we climb up by the side of the Ngozumpa Glacier passing the Gokyo lakes and arrive at Gokyo village.

Day 10. In Gokyo(Excursion to Gokyo Ri)
Start early in the morning for Gokyo Ri(5357m). The climb is a steep uphill and take about 2-3 hrs through winding trial. The summit provides spellbinding views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Makalu, Cho Oyo, glacial moraine and Gokyo village below. Return to Gokyo village for lunch, after lunch we have the option to rest and relax or hike to the 4th and the 5th lake .

Day 11. Gokyo to Dole.
After breakfast we shall retrace back to Machhermo and descend down to Dole for overnight.

Day 12. Dole to Namche.
Today’ hike is mostly downhill towards the Dudh Koshi passing through several villages with views of Thamserku, Amadablam, Lhotse, and Mt. Everest along the way.

Day 13. Namche to Lukla
We descend down the same trial that we have taken and arrive at Lukla. Rest of the time is free.

Day 14. Fly to Kathmandu
Take the early morning flight to Kathmandu, on arrival check in to your hotel and rest and relax.

Day 15. Extra day in Kathmandu.
Free or leisure day in Kathmandu. (Flights from Lukla are often cancelled due to unpredictable mountain weather, therefore we have planned for this extra contingent day)

Day 16. Departure
Departure transfer to the airport according to your flight to your next destination.
