This Langtang Gosainkunda Melamchi trek is one of the most spectacular treks in the Himalayas. This journey will take you across the Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda Lake, and then to the Helambu region. This area is mostly inhabited by the Sherpa and the Tamang people who share a similar religion, language, and clothing style. The landscapes are extremely varied with terraced rice fields, gigantic rhododendron and fir forests in the lower region, and rugged rocky landscape in the higher region with fascinating snowy peaks at the backdrop.
As usual, our trek begins from Syabrubesi on the edge of the Langtang National Park. We climb through beautiful thick oak and rhododendron forests up to Langtang valley and the Sherpa village of Kyanjin Gompa. From Kyanjin Gompa retrace our trek back to Lama hotel and continue to Gosaikunda across Sing Gompa. Cross over the Lauribina La pass and reach Gosaikunda. Gosainkunda is a popular pilgrimage site for both the Hindus and the Buddhist, every year thousands of pilgrims from all over Nepal and India visit this place during the Janai Purnima festival.
After Gosaikunda lakes the trail continues across the Lauribina La pass towards the Helambu valley. Helambu valley is a collection of numerous and picturesque Sherpa villages. After Helambu continue our journey towards Kathmandu.
Day 1. Arrival in Kathmandu.
Upon arrival meet our representative and transfer to the hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can either relax at your hotel or take a short self-guided tour. Evening dinner at a traditional Nepali Restaurant. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 2. In Kathmandu(trek preparation).
Today in the first half we shall visit some of the major UNESCO World Heritage Sites within the city, which may include Pasupatinath temple, Boudanath Stupa, and Kathmandu Durbar Square. The later part of the day we shall keep as preparation and planning for the trek. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 3. Drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1,440m/7-8 hrs)
After breakfast drive to Syabrubesi via Trishuli Bazaar and Dhunche. The drive goes along a winding mountain road with views of beautiful landscapes and the snow-covered mountains in the background. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 4. Trek from Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel (2,420m/6 hrs)
Today the trail goes along the Langtang river across forests of oak and rhododendron, verdant meadows, and several Tamang villages offering a stunning vista of great Himalayan peaks and finally ascends through Rimche and end at Lama Hotel. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 5. Trek from Lama Hotel to Langtang village(Sherpagaon/Mundu 3430m/6-7 hrs)
We begin with a gentle ascend above the Langtang Khola but soon turns into a steep climb. The trail goes through rhododendron and pine forest with the view of the Langtang Lirung and further up to the meadows of Ghoda Tabela. Further on, the route opens up into a wide valley of yak pastures and scattered Tamang villages with water-driven mills and prayer wheels. Depending on the time we shall either halt for the night at Sherpagaon or Mundu village. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 6 Mundu/Sherpagaon to Kyanjin Gompa (3,810m/4-5 hrs)
The trail passes across water run mills, prayer wheels, chortens, streams, wooden bridges, and moraines until we reach Kyanjn Gompa. After lunch, we could either choose to rest or visit the monastery, cheese factory and explore around the village with beautiful views of Langtang Lirung, Kyanjin RI, Tserko RI, Langshisha Ri, Yala Peak, and others. Day 7. Excursion to Tserko Ri (4984m/5-6 hrs)
The trail begins from a flat path but soon turns into a steep climb as we proceed further, the climb gets more difficult and tough until the summit. The summit of Tserko Ri provides a stunning 360° view of Langtang valley and the snow-covered peaks making it the most unforgettable experience of our life. After spending some time at the summit, we will descend and retrace back to Kyanjin Gompa. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 8. Kyangjin Gompa to Lama Hotel(6-7 hrs)
Today we retrace our steps back to Lama Hotel. The trail is mostly downhill passing through forests and villages with the view of the snow-covered peaks along the way. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 9. Lama Hotel to Thulo Syabru (2230m/6hrs)
Today we begin with a gentle descent down to the river through beautiful pine and Junipers forests and then it is a steep climb to Thulo Syabru. Thulo Syabru Gaun is a lovely village that has preserved the ethnic custom, culture, and traditions of the Tamang people. Enjoy the magnificent view of nature with splendid views of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, and other peaks. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 10. Thulo Syabru to Sing Gompa(3320m/5hrs)
Leaving Thulo Syabru we ascend steeply uphill through forests of oak, hemlock and rhododendron across pasture lands to the ridge at Phoprang. And from here the trail goes across the ridge top and finally ascends to Sing Gompa. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 11. Sing Gompa to Gosainkunda(4380m/5-6hr)
The trail ascends gently up to Lauribina Pass and from here it is a steep uphill walk with good views of west Himal chuli, Manaslu range, Ganesh Himal range, and other peaks of Langtang Lirung. After a short break at Lauribina Pass, we continue our journey and reach a small ridge, from where we shall have the first views of the holy lakes. There are about a dozen lakes in the Gosaikunda basin of which Saraswatikunda, Bhairavkunda, and Gosainkunda are the prominent ones. Overnight in trekkers lodge
Day 12. Gosaikunda to Ghopte(3440m/7hrs).
The trail ascends passing three smaller lakes to Lauribina pass, the highest point on this trek. From the top of the pass, we can have an incredible 360° view of the rocky hills and snow-clad peaks in the background. From here it is a gradual descent to Phedi village and continue to Ghopte where we halt for the night. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 13. Ghopte - Tharepati – Melamchigaon(2560m/5-6hrs)
The trail descends and ascends across ravines and rocks and then ascends through rhododendron, oak, and juniper forest to Tharepati. From Tharepati, the trail steeply descends through pine and rhododendron forest with great views of the Helambu valley until Melamchigaon. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 14. Melamchigaon-Tarkeghyang(2580m/5-6hrs)
Continue our trek across the village and cross the stream. From here it is a gradual uphill climb through scenic landscape and forest and arrives at Tarkeghyang, the largest village in the Helambu region. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 15.Tarkheghyang-Timbu(3hrs)-Drive to Kathmandu(4-5hrs)
Trek to Timbu, the trail is mostly downhill walk through forests and beautiful villages and at Timbu board on to the waiting vehicle and drive to Kathmandu. Overnight in a hotel.
Day 16. Departure.
Transfer to the airport for departure flight.
