Dear Jambay,
I am now home from Bhutan & Nepal and starting to get over my jet lag so wanted to drop you a short note regarding the tour. First, I want to thank you again for all the work you put into making the itinerary work well and your patience dealing with my many questions! I am happy I was able to meet you in person in Thimphu … I hope your trip also went well.
The net of my evaluation of the trip is that Windhorse did a great job and I would certainly recommend you to anyone who is planning to travel to Bhutan. The attention to detail was excellent, the communications were excellent, and I felt we were able to see both the “top sights” but also had ability to explore other aspects of the country to interact a bit with local people and not just the “tourist sights”. Our guide Yeshi was excellent, as was our driver Sanjit. Both were fun to be with and their knowledge and love of Bhutan shone through. They also both tried every single day to be sure we were happy with the activities and food and also safe on those lousy roads. They also adjusted the activities to accommodate Louise’s limited mobility and still give me the chance to walk more, and to include plenty of opportunities for crafts and shopping for Louise. I also really appreciated their ability to include a few things like the visits to a couple of farm houses for meals and the interactions we had with some of the local people while out on the road or at some of the temples and monasteries. All in all they did a great job and Yeshi was very good at educating us regarding the various Buddhist deities and manifestations of Guru Rinpoche!!!
In addition, we were both pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotels you booked for us. When we read about Bhutan and when I have talked to other people who have been there, I got the impression the hotels would be pretty basic and instead they were all very nicely appointed and everything worked well and of course the staff at each hotel was always friendly and very nice. The food, while somewhat repetitive, was also better than I expected. When one reads about “dried meat” from India, it does not exactly sound good … so I was real pleasantly surprised to have very flavorful meals every single day. I guess it helps that I love ema datshi!!!!
Thanks again for making it all work so smoothly …
Best wishes and tashi delek!
