We had an 8 day trip to Bhutan & our Windhorse guides were excellent throughout. We especially appreciated their help when we tried to cross the land border from Bhutan into India. We had been told in Kolkata that the Indian e-tourist visa could be used here – it can’t! It can only be used for 1 entry into India & is only accepted at certain airports. Because it’s relatively new, not even the officials know its limitations. Our guide Duba & driver Tashi refused to leave us until it was all sorted out. This meant an overnight stay at Phuentosholing for them & missing the start of their next trip. They recruited the help of the local Windhorse manager Anand who very kindly came to our rescue on a Sun night & took us to the Indian consul at his home to see what could be done. Initially he said that he could only issue a 3 day tourist visa, but the next day, he issued a full 30 day tourist visa.
Without Anand’s help & the use of the Windhorse van to shuttle us around, it would have been a very miserable 24 hrs. So I would highly recommend Windhorse for its professionalism & we had a great holiday seeing all the things we hoped for.
