Coronation day of 5th King

The Present King, Jigme Gesar Namgyal Wangchuk recieved the scared Dhar or scarf on 1st Nov as per tradition in Punakha Dzong and was crowned the 5th King of Bhutan. On 6th November 2008 the celebration took place in public in Thimphu. His Majesty the 4th King, the father abdicated the throne. On the Nov 1, It is a national holiday in Bhutan. Each year a pompous celebration is expected to continue all over Bhutan. The school children, monastic community and the government departments jointly organize festive event that include mask dances, cultural shows, sport events, among others things. Thimphu being the center and capital is usually more active.
