Gyalpo Losar

Gyalpo Losar is the New Year of the Tibetan and Sherpa communities in Nepal. It typically falls in February, occasionally in March. During Gyalpo Losar, Buddhist monasteries—such as Boudhanath and Swayambhunath in Kathmandu—are adorned with colorful prayer flags, attracting crowds. People wear new clothes and traditional jewelry, engage in ceremonial dances, exchange greetings and gifts, and celebrate with feasts and family gatherings.
