Tukbi Tseshi is a Tibetan Buddhist festival celebrated to commemorate the birthday of Buddha Shakyamuni. It falls on the 4th day of the 5th month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, which usually corresponds to June or July. This day marks the occasion when Buddha is believed to have been born, attained enlightenment, and passed away, all of which are significant events in his life.
Tukbi Tseshi is celebrated with great reverence in Tibet and other Tibetan communities, such as those in Nepal and India. Devotees visit monasteries, offering prayers and butter lamps to honor Buddha. The day is also marked by rituals, including sutra recitations, mantra chanting, and meditation, to commemorate Buddha’s teachings and spread his message of compassion and wisdom.
In some regions, Buddha statues are bathed in scented water in a symbolic act of purification. It is a time for spiritual renewal and reflection on the core principles of Buddhism.
