Jambay Lhakhang Singye Cham

Jambay Lhakhang Singye Cham festival is a single day event held at the revered Jambay Lhakhang monastery in the Bumthang Valley.  The term “Singye” translates to “lion,” and the dance symbolizes the fearless and powerful nature of Guru Rinpoche. The performance reenacts Guru Rinpoche’s victory over malevolent spirits through enlightened wisdom and compassion. Dancers don elaborate costumes and masks, often intricately designed to represent deities and guardian figures.

The choreography of the Singye Cham is characterized by energetic and rhythmic movements, accompanied by traditional music and chanting. It’s not only a visually impressive display but also a spiritual representation of the triumph of enlightenment over ignorance and negativity.
