Krishna Janmashtami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It typically falls in the month of August or September, on the 8th day (Ashtami) of the dark fortnight of the month of Shravana. Devotees observe fasting, sing devotional songs, and perform pujas (rituals) to honor Krishna. In many regions, the night of Krishna’s birth is marked with midnight prayers, as it is believed that he was born at midnight.
The festival also includes dances, dramas depicting Krishna’s life, and the popular tradition of dahi handi, where teams break clay pots filled with yogurt. It is a joyful celebration of Krishna’s divine presence and teachings of love, compassion, and dharma.
