National Day

On this day in 1907, Sir Ugyen Wangchuk was installed as the first hereditary Monarch in a ceremony at Punakha Dzong. National day is celebrated throughout the Kingdom. The school parade together and perform a joint cultural events and sports competition. Thimphu being the capital, the celebration is grander. In addition to the schools, the armed forces, police, national dance troupe also participate in the event. Few mask dances are also performed. There are stalls of food and game vendor set up in Changlimithang open stadium.
