Shingkhar Metochoedpa
Shingkhar Metochoedpa is a significant religious festival celebrated in the Shingkhar village in the Paro Valley of Bhutan. It is a traditional festival dedicated to honoring the local deities and Buddha’s teachings, particularly the practice of compassion and spiritual protection. The festival is held annually on the 15th day of the 10th month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, which typically falls in November.
During Shingkhar Metochoedpa, a variety of religious ceremonies take place at the Shingkhar Monastery, including prayers, mantra chanting, and offerings to invoke blessings and protection for the community. The monks also perform ritual dances (Cham dances) to ward off negative energies and bring peace and prosperity to the region.
The festival is marked by a strong sense of community spirit, with locals coming together to celebrate, offer thanks, and deepen their devotion. It is a time for reflection, renewal, and spiritual growth.
