Tour of the Dragon

The Tour of the Dragon Festival in Bhutan is an annual mountain biking event that spans 268 kilometers across rugged mountain terrain from Bumthang to Thimphu. Participants embrace the challenge, showcasing perseverance and camaraderie as they navigate through breathtaking landscapes, while spectators revel in the festival atmosphere, celebrating both the natural beauty and cultural spirit of Bhutan.

Along with tour of the Dragon, another short race called Dragon’s Fury Mountain Race also takes place on the same day from Messina (Lobesa) is Wangduephodrang to Thimphu spanning 60km.. Inaugurated in 2015 to celebrate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty, the 4th Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the race offers participants a thrilling challenge. Starting in Messina and ascending to Dochula at 3150m, cyclists navigate a challenging uphill route before descending to Thimphu at 2330m, providing breathtaking views along the way.
