Best time to visit Nepal
Spring and autumn is the best time to visit Nepal. In springtime, the weather is pleasant, and the climate is not very hot and not very cold. Flowers such as rhododendrons, Magnolia, and other wildflowers burst into colorful blooms. The days are dry with clear skies, offering spectacular mountain views. Thus trekking in the Himalayas is more enjoyable with good views of the mountains. But, with the right information and correct planning, one can visit Nepal all year round.
The country experiences four main seasons.
The Spring season in Nepal starts in March and lasts till May. During spring variety of flowers like rhododendron, magnolia, and other wildflowers is in full bloom.
Summer is also called the monsoon season. The summer season starts in June and lasts till August. The summer season is the hottest in Nepal, and it rains almost daily.
September-November is the autumn season. The days are clear, and the weather is cool. It is also the season of festivals. Two great festivals of Dashain and Tihar fall during this time.
December, January, and February is the winter season in Nepal. The days are cold and sunny with a clear sky, and the nights are freezing. There will be occasional snowfalls in the Himalayan region.
Spring in Nepal
Spring is also the best season to travel in Nepal. In Spring, you can see a wide variety of wildflowers like rhododendron, magnolia, and other flowers in full bloom. It is also the second-best season to go for trekking and mountain expeditions. The high passes are usually snow-free, and the mountain views are outstanding. It is the best time to cross high passes like the Kongma La, Cho La, and Renjo La(Three High Pass Trek), Thorong La(Annapurna Circuit Trek), and Larkay La(Manaslu Circuit Trek).
Summer in Nepal
Summer brings hot and humid weather, with heavy rainfall. The clouds obscure the mountain views, and the downpour causes landslides in several areas disrupting transportation. Flights often get delayed due to cloudy weather. Therefore, it is best to avoid traveling to Nepal during the summer. Trekking in Everest, Annapurna, and the Langtang region is not advisable. However, trekking in the rain shadow area of Nepal, such as the Upper Mustang Trek, Dolpo region, and the Nar Phu Valley, can be a great alternative.
Autumn in Nepal
Autumn offers excellent weather and fantastic mountain views. Autumn is the best trekking season and the best time to visit Nepal. The temperature is moderate, and the sky is generally clear with outstanding views.
Winter in Nepal
Winter in Nepal brings cold weather with occasional snowfall in the mountains. The weather is pleasant during the day, but the temperature drops significantly at night. Yet, you will have clear skies, unobstructed mountain views, and the trekking route peaceful with fewer visitors. Although, high-altitude treks are out of reach. Yet, low-altitude treks like the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, Dhampus Sarangkot Trek, and Helambu Valley Trek can be a perfect choice.
Winter is also the time to visit Nepal to experience snowfall. We can enjoy snowfall near Kathmandu valley in Chandragiri, Nagarkot, Phulchowki, Daman, and Kalinchowk. However, visiting Chitwan and Bardia National parks can be the best option because of the moderate temperature in the Terai region.
