Chagpo Ri

Opposite of Potala to the south east is the 3,725m Chakpori, believed sacred to Vajrapani, the bodhisattva of Energy and Power. The hill was once the site of Tibet's principal Medical College, known as the Mentsekhang, founded in 1413 and destroyed in 1959 uprising, which is now replaced by steel telecom mast. The slopes of Chagpori contain over 5,000 rock-carvings on the cliff walls, starting from the seventh century onwards.
