Chim Phu Caves
Also spelt Chim-Puk is a warren of caves that was once a retreat of Guru Rimpoche. It lies 16kms to the north-east of Samye in the upper part of nearby Chimpu valley. Pilgrims generally begin five hour walk to caves early in the morning, before sunrise. Trucks and tractors can also available for hire from Samye, which will take you below Chimpu, from where it is 30 minutes walk to the Utse temple. Many hermits from across Tibetan lands come to meditate here.
