Derong || Songmai or Zangme town

Derong, in Tibetan, means gorge or canyon. The main town center is at Zangme or Songmai (2,800m), which flanks on both the banks of Ding Chu River. In the evening at the town square, the Tibetans usually gather to dance and sing in a group. It is again a convenient stop along Sichuan and Yunan road. The distance from Xiangcheng to Derong is 150km. From Derong town, the road going south to Yunnan follows the river downstream to its confluence with Yangtze at Wakha, the border of Sichuan and Yunan . After crossing the bridge over Yangtze, the road divides with one branch heading to Dechen and another to southeast towards Gyelthang.
