Drigung Til Monastery (4,300m) is located on the slopes of a steep cliff overlooking the valley with over 50 buildings scattered around. It is around 40km northeast of Drigung Qu. It is the head monastery of the Drigungpa School of the Kagyupa order, first established in 1167. It is an active monastery with around 250 monks. It was once reputed for its excellence in meditation and during the 13 century even rivaled Sakya in its political influence. The views from the main courtyard are impressive and a serene stillness pervades the site. The monastery kora (circumambulation) heads up the hill to the main durtro (burial site). This is one the holiest sky-burial site in Lhasa region.
