Lhamo La-Tsho || Oracle Lake

Lhamo Latsho (oracle lake) is one of most important pilgrimage destinations in U region. It is considered sacred to one of the forms of protectress Shridevi and revered as the life-supporting talisman of Dalai Lamas. Dalai Lamas have traditionally made pilgrimage here to seek visions that appear on the oracle lake. Reting Rinpoche, the regent of Tibet, journeyed to the lake in 1993 and had the vision of the present Dalai Lama's birth and circumstances in Amdo.
From Chokhorgye, the trek up to the pass is about 3-4 hours, most of which can be driven with the new constructed road. Just short of the mountain pass (5400m) that overlooks Lhamo La-tsho is a ritual stone throne built for Dalai Lamas, that is buried under mound of Khadak (silk scarves). It is 15-minute walk up to the pass from the stone throne, dramatically overlooking the lake, which is 150m below. After the pass, the walk downhill is about one and half hour, and further one hour to circumambulate (Kora) of the lake.
