Lukhang Temple || Lu (Naga) spirit temple

Entered through Lukhang Park, is a little visited Lukhang temple on the small island in a lake behind the Potala. The excavation of mortar for the construction of Potala Palace in the 17th century left behind a crater, which became the lake. In 1700, a three-storeyed temple dedicated to Naga spirits (Lu) was constructed by the sixth Dalai Lama. Traditionally, Tibet Cabinet (Kashag) made offerings to appease the Naga spirit.
