Manigango || Manigange
The small but bustling town on Manigango (3950m) lies at the junction of three important roads. Derge is 110km to southwest, Yushu and Serxu to the northwest, Kandze is 85km to the southeast. This town is a pit stop for truckers headed for Tibet or coming from there.
In the grassland to the south of here is Yazer Gompa, an active Dzogchen hermitage and temple. Around 12km on the road to Dege, is the sacred and beautiful glacial lake of Yilhun Lhatso (Chinese - Xinluhai) or Yulong Lake at 4200m surrounded by rugged snowy mountains of Trola range. It shores are bedecked with carved prayer stones. The area is protected nature reserve. One can rent horse or mules for ride from the road to the lake and to ride along its shores.
