The Himalayan Mountaineering Institute was set up following to the successful ascent of Mt. Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa along with Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953. Located on Jawahar parbat, HMI is one of the premier mountaineering institutes in the world. It has a museum with a unique collection of paintings, sculptures, photographs, manuscripts, autographs and mountaineering equipment belonging to famous mountaineers. The Institute regularly conducts Adventure, Basic and Advanced Mountaineering courses and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa was it's first field director. Apart from Tenzing, legendary mountaineers like Nawang Gombu, Dorjee Lhatoo and Nima Tashi have helped build the reputation of this institute
