Tidrum Nunnery and Hot Springs

The hermitage of Tirdom (4,350m) is located 13km from the road junction of Drijung Til monastery, and around 50kms from Drijung Qu. The approach to the hermitage follows a narrow but drivable track up a precipitous cliff that comes to a halt at a vantage point overlooking a gorge of aromatic herbs, medicinal hot spring and an important nunnery, at the confluence of two streams.
The nunnery has a connection and history linked with Guru Rinpoche, King Trisong Detsen and particularly with consort Yeshe Tsogyal, who remained in meditation for many years, which is why the nunnery was constructed at this particular site. There are many pilgrim sites and Koras in the area for Buddhists.
The hot springs are delightful open-air stone bathing pools filled with what is said to be magical healing water and have separate shower rooms for women and men. The temperature of the spring is around 40'C and known to contain minerals, which soaked over one-week stay can reputedly help gastric, tumours, paralysis and general debility.
There are two guesthouses with basic facilities and one of them is run by the nunnery
