Trichy or Tiruchirapalli (city of three headed demon) sprawls on the banks of the Cauvery River, at the foot of colossal Rock Fort Temple perched on a massive rocky outcrop. A 437 rock cut steps leads to the shrine of the god Ganesh. A view of Trichy town from the hilltop here is breathtaking. Trichy is also famous for Sriranganathaswami temple at Srirangam, on an island created by Cauvery and one of its tributaries. This is one of the most revered of the 108 pilgrimage shrines of Vishnu, and one of the largest temple complex in India. In close proximity to Sriengam temple is Sri Jambukeshwara Temple at Thiruvanaikoil. The temple signifies the one of the five elements Water and we can see water oozing out near the Shivalinga idol in the temple. Apart from this a visit to the Gandhi Market in the heart of the city is very interesting. The 128 year old market is one of the biggest and oldest market of Tamilandu, that and attracts people from all areas.
