Xinlong || Barshok in Tibetan
Xinlong (Barshok in Tibetan), Alt: 3050m is a small town and the county capital Nyarong, set alongside the Yalong River, is an area of high mountains cut by deep rivers. It was largely unvisited due as the road was only recently repaired/completed. This was formerly a residence of the Chieftan, who in 1830s subdued most of Kham and unified under his command.
In Xinlong you can visit Zera Gompa monastery set atop the hill behind town. Much further away is Chakdu Gompa, one of the oldest Nyingmapa gompa in Kham.
