Sorry for my late response concerning our recent trip to Nepal and Bhutan (April 2024) that you arranged for Julie and me. After returning from our trip we spent some time in London and then I spent 6 weeks helping teach students excavation skills and conducting an excavation in the Gila National Forest in central New Mexico, USA. The students camped out but I was able to stay in a forest service house that we used forour headquarters. We did not have cell phone service or internet available and I am still working on the final report.

You did a fantastic job in organizing our Nepal and Bhutan Trip to accommodate all our many wishes. Thank you so much. I hope that someday we will have the opportunity to meet you personally.

The festivals in Bhutan were wonderful and we thoroughly enjoyed the Jakar area. We also appreciated your well thought out, comfortable, unique, and interesting lodging throughout the Bhutan trip. We enjoyed immensely all the short hikes, visits to monasteries,  Dzongs, and nature trails that you arranged for us as well as the interesting local meals. At 83 years of age I got the encouragement of our trusty guide Sonam and I finished the hike  to the Tiger’s Nest  to cap off our trip. The driver Karma in Bhutan was excellent, safe, courteous, and friendly  attending to our many whims. All in all a remarkable enlightening wonderful trip to Bhutan.

In Nepal we started off with a delightful dinner and cultural performance. The arranged lodging for the tour was very interesting, comfortable, and appropriate for the tour. Our guide Kumar and driver conducted the tour of Nepal admirably, safely, promptly, and adjusted kindly to our many photo stop requests. The places visited were interesting and revealed the culture and highlights of Nepal. The driver did a fantastic job of patiently navigating all the construction on the Road from Pokhara to Katmandu, which was not fun, but the stop along the way in Bandipur was very relaxing and enjoyable and we would not have wanted to miss it. However we do not recommend the drive. Certainly the highlight of the Nepal trip was the excellent help and service of our guide Kumar. He was on top of making the necessary changes and his efficiency and helpfulness during the entire trip was extraordinary. His choice of restaurants for lunch meals was interesting and fun. He seemed more like a good friend than a guide and was always cheerful, accommodating, ever present and accessible. He shared a great deal about his mountain farm and gave us great insight into Nepalese life and culture. We both said that he was the best guide we have had on our many travels. It was amazing that he was so friendly and considerate of an older couple and yet still have the flexibility and ability to guide more physically demanding trips to the high mountains.

Lastly we stayed in the Hotel Dolmaling that you suggested for our transition day from Bhutan to London and had a very enjoyable peaceful day exploring the Bodnath Stupa and watching the activities in the surrounding area.
