Bharatpur || Bharatpur is famous for its bird sanctuary
Bharatpur is haven for the bird watcher Bharatpur is about 54km away from Agra, 174km from Jaipur and about 20kms from Fatehpur Sikri, just a bit off the Agra-Jaipur highway. In 17th and 18th century it was the stronghold of Jhat. The Jhat retained their autonomy against Rajputs and Mughals. They withstood the attacks by British. The fort which was constructed during these attacks (Lohagarh) still stand sturdy. Bharatpur is famous for its UNESCO World Heritage- listed National Park. About 30km away from here is another small and interesting town of Deeg. The Royal House of Bharatpur traces their history to the 11th Century AD. of this region are of most respected royal status in Rajasthan. Bharatpur is also known as Lohagarh. Bharatpur is famous for its sweets which are well prepared here and there are a large number of shops here. There are more than 50 oil mills in Bharatpur due to mustard grown in large quantity in the surrounding areas.
