Helambu Valley Trekking is an easy trekking route nearby the Kathmandu valley. Helambu Valley Trekking is a low-altitude trek through temperate forests, green valleys, and past Tamang and Sherpa villages. Helambu Valley Trekking offers diverse landscapes with distinct cultural experiences. The trekking route is less crowded and offers a wide range of cultures and spectacular scenery.
Helambu Valley Trekking begins from Sundarijal after an hour's drive from Kathmandu. From Sundarijal, it is a moderate uphill walk past Mulkharka towards Shivapuri hill and then descends to Chisapani. Chisapani is one of the best viewpoints of this trek. From Chisapani, the trail ascends to Pati Bhanjyang and then descending to Kutumsang.
From Kutumsang, the trail continues uphill towards Tharepati. Tharepati at 3567 m is the highest point of this trek, where you can have a scenic view of Dorje Lakpa, Ganesh Himal, Gaurishanker, Jugal Himal, and Langtang Lirung. Further, the trail passes through Melamchi Gaun, Tarkeyghyang, and then descends to Melamchi Bazaar, where our trek ends.
Day 1. Drive to Sundarijal-Trek to Chisopani(2075m/5-6hrs).
Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and drive about an hour to Sundarijal. From here, it is a moderate uphill hike through the Shivapuri National Park to Mulkharka, the first village on this trail. The trail follows the ridge through forests of oak, and rhododendron and then descends to Chisapani. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 2. Chisopani-Kutumsang(2470m/5-6hrs)
Today the trail is mostly uphill, with good views of several mountains like the Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, and Dorje Lakpa. The trail descends onto a flat trail crossing meadows and fields to Pati Bhanjyang and then ascends for about an hour or two and then descends to Gulbhanjyang. From here, it is another one or more hours to Kutumsang. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 3. Kutumsang-Tharepati(3640m/5-6hrs)
The trail continues north to Yurin Danda. It is an uphill climb along a steep path through a beautiful rhododendron forest and gradually descends to Magingoth. From here, it is a gradual ascent to Tharepati. From Tharepati, we can have some incredible mountain views and see both sides of Gosainkunda and Helambu. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 4. Tharepati-Tarkheghyang(2743m/5-6hrs)
Today it is a downhill walk through pine and rhododendron forests to Melamchigaon. Melamchigaun is a beautiful Sherpa village surrounded by forest. Lunch at Melamchigaun, after lunch, descend to the river valley below and cross over the Melamchi Khola, and climb to Tarkeyghyang. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
Day 5. Tarkeghyang – Sermathang(2621/4-5hrs)
The trail today is less physically challenging. It is mostly over flat land through some forested areas, small villages, and terraced fields. After crossing several small streams and waterfalls, we arrive at Sermathang. Overnight in trekkers lodge.
(From Tarkeyghyang, you also have the option to climb Ama Yangri peak if you start very early)
Day 6. Sermathang-Melamchi Bazaar (870m/3 hrs)-Drive to Kathmandu (3-4 hrs)
Today we hike downhill for about three hours through meadows and cultivated fields to reach Melamchi Bazaar. We will have lunch at Melamchi Bazaar. After lunch, drive to Kathmandu(3-4 hrs) and transfer to your hotel(within the city limit).
