Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda Lake Trek

Trek to the holy Gosainkunda lakes

Share This Trip:

The Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda Lake Trek offer an extraordinary experience, enabling visitors to trek through yak pastures, alpine meadows, medieval Buddhist monasteries, and stunning panoramic mountain ranges. This particular trail is marked by traditional Buddhist prayer flags, cairns, and high passes. You can also experience a range of unique cultural gems from the Sherpa and Tamang communities. Although this region was affected by the 2015 earthquake, visitors can still contribute to the ongoing rebuilding project while trekking and aiding sustainable development activities.

The Langtang Valley and Gosainkunda Lake trek is a captivating journey that starts at Syabrubesi on the edge of the Langtang National Park. As we make our way through lush oak and rhododendron forests, we reach the beautiful village of Kyanjin Gompa. The next day we climb up to Tserko Ri and then descend back to the Kyanjin Gompa for Lunch. After lunch, we will retrace our hike back to Riverside and then continue to Thulo Syabru. From there, we turn towards the holy lake of Gosaikunda, passing through the mesmerizing break of Lauribina La Pass (4610m). We also get to feast our eyes with beautiful views of Ganesh Himal, Jugal Himal, Manaslu, and other peaks.

Gosainkunda lake basin is a wonderland of religious sites, spiritually-endued lakes, and breathtaking mountain views. The lake is home to a dozen scintillating lakes, and some of the most eminent ones are Saraswotikunda, Bhairavkunda, and Gosainkunda. Nestled among the snowy peaks, encircled by lush meadows and subalpine woodlands, Gosainkunda Lake is regarded as a sacred pilgrimage site by both Hindus and Buddhists alike. It is believed that the waters of Gosaikunda Lakes possess magical healing powers and attract thousands of Hindu devotees for an annual bath in the lake during the Janai Purnima festival. Adventure-seekers can discover the beauty of the lake by scaling the Lauribina La Pass and descending to the Sing Gompa, and then returning to Kathmandu.
