Domkhar Tashicholing

Domkhar Dzong, also known as Domlhar Tashicholing Palace, is situated just above Domkhar village in the Chumey valley of Bumthang. It was originally constructed in the year 1937 as a summer palace by the second King of Bhutan. After a period of vacancy, it is said that the 16th Karmapa and his entourage of monks briefly used it in the 1950s.
In 2004, a renovation was undertaken to transform it into the residence of the then Trongsa Penlop, who is now the 5th King of Bhutan. Today, the dzong is frequently used by His Majesty the King during his travels. While visitors may not enter the interior, they can still appreciate the magnificent architecture and religious paintings from its courtyard.
