Gangtey to Trongsa drive: || The road from Gangtey to Trongsa

From Gangtey, the road ascends up to Lawa La pass(3360mts) through a stretch of a rough road and rejoins the east-west highway and ascends to Pele la pass(3420mts). Pelela provides splendid views of snowcapped peaks of Jumolhari, Kangbum, Jichu Drake and the peaks to the far west. Trongsa is only about 48kms from the pass and it takes around 2.5 hrs. The road from the pass descends through hillside of dwarf bamboos, pasturelands, evergreen forests and small villages. The vegetation changes from evergreen to broad leaf as it further descends passing through Sephu and Chendebji village. At a short distance from Chendebji village is the Chendebji chorten, a large stupa patterned after the Swayambhunath stupa in Kathmandu. From here the road passes through farm lands, villages and opens up into the Mangde chu valley with the view of Trongsa Dzong and the town in a short while. The road follows the side valley and crosses at the upper reaches of Mangde Chhu and arrives at Trongsa.
