Assam || North East State of India

The state of Assam is situated in the north east, just below the eastern Himalayan foothills and it is surrounded by the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and Meghalaya, which together with Assam are known collectively as the seven sisters. Assam also shares international borders with Bhutan and Bangladesh The capital of Assam is at Dispur, in the suburbs of the Guwahati city. Assam comprises of Brahmaputra river and the Barak river valleys, the Karbi Anglong and the North Cachar Hills. With an area of 78,438 square kilometers, it equivalent to the size of Ireland or Austria. Assam Tea is popular world over and it is also a producer of high quality silk, called pat and Muga. Assam is a major supplier of oil and natural gas in India and it also has rich biodiversity. Kaziranga and Manas National parks, both a World Heritage Sites are located in Assam.
