Namche Bazaar is one of the major stop off point on the Everest Base Camp Trek as well as other treks and mountaineering expeditions in this region. Once a major trading center of the Khumbu region, Sherpas from neighboring villages and traders from Tibet would gather to barter goods displaying exotic traditional arts and crafts. However, after the successful summit of the Everest by Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa in 1953, the village changed forever. Now it has developed into the main tourist centre in the Khumbu region. The town now includes modern amenities such as internet cafes, currency exchange, locally-renowned bakeries, a small Irish pub along with a number of lodges and restaurants. Despite its prosperity, Namche Bazaar still retains its ancient culture, traditions and heart-warming hospitality Namche Bazaar(3440m) situated on the slope of an arch-shaped mountain provides amazing views of mountains across the valley. Namche is the first place on the Khumbu trek that is above altitude sickness threshold, most travelers prefer to spend at least two nights here in order to acclimatize. Despite its popularity with trekkers, Namche Bazaar still retains its ancient culture, traditions and heart-warming hospitality of the Sherpa people.
