Tengboche monastery || largest monastery in Khumbu region
Tengboche monastery is one of the several Buddhist landmarks on the way to the Everest Base Camp. Tengboche monastery also known as Dawa Choling Gompa, is located in Tengboche village of Khumbu and is the largest and the most prominent monastery in the Khumbu region. It was built in 1916 by Lama Gulu with strong links to its mother monastery, the Rongbuk Monastery in Tibet. This monastery is the leading Buddhist centre with a residing Rinpoche who blesses pilgrims, mountaineers and travelers passing through. Located amidst the Sagarmatha National Park, Tengboche monastery provides a 360-degree panoramic view of Himalayan range including the well-known peaks of Tawache, Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku.
