Land of the Tamils, a land of enduring heritage has the history that dates back several thousand of years. It is a land where traditions and culture blend and continue to live in harmony. After the independence of India, the state of Madras was created in 1956 based on linguistic boundaries. Lying on the southeastern coast of the Indian peninsula, Tamil Nadu is bounded by the Eastern Ghats in the north and Nilgiri, the Annamalai Hills and Palghat on the west. The state abounds in monuments and temples that are ancient and each has its own story of religious, artistic and cultural accomplishment and specialty waiting to be heard. It is the sixth most populous state in India, the third largest economy among the states of India. The Tamil kingdoms of Chera, Chola, Pandya and Pallava were responsible for the production of some of the oldest surviving literature in India. Also, Carnatic Music, Bharatanatyam dance and Indian architecture is evolved within the state. The grandeur of the Hindu temple architecture in Tamil Nadu should be seen to be believed. Tamilnadu is the gate way for travelers to South India.
