Drive Thimphu to Phuntsholing

The road follows the Wangchu river to Chuzom (31Km), the river confluence, from where the road to Paro and Ha separates. After Chunzom, the road stays for a while in the valley and then starts the climb after Damchu to Chapcha ridge and gradually descends passing small villages to Chukha town or more appropriately Tsimakothi. Then the road switchbacks down to Chukha check point, crosses the bridge across Wangchu river and begin a steady climb with spectacular views of waterfalls and landscapes and arrive at Gedu village (2,100m), where you will notice lots of little shops selling Datse or Bhutanese cottage cheese. The areas after Chukha and beyond Gedu are in the high rainfall zone and therefore the vegetations are very rich. The road after Gedu snakes the sides of the hills gradually descending into Phuntsholing. Just before Phuntsholing, there is a check point at Richending and a temple with nice views of the plains at Kharbandi. Total 172km and about 6 hours drive.
